PROJECT DETAILS
Devon Energy is seriously committed to its communities, contributing a lot to programs and initiatives that serve its operating areas. The focus here: Devon knows that the next gen of energy leaders is on its way, and these kids need more STEM opportunities.
We concepted and produced a spot that gave Devon’s STEM initiatives the spotlight, creating a rallying cry and brand love for the company.

Getting on the same page.
Getting on the same page.
Devon didn’t begin the project with a topic in mind other than “community engagement.” Through rigorous discovery with department heads across Devon’s team, we all aligned on one thing: it was time to anchor down to Devon’s values.
Devon’s focus on leadership development, growing a sustainable workforce, and furthering energy’s best future made their contributions to STEM education the perfect subject for this values-driven spot.

Nerds are the future of the industry. We’ll need all the scientists, techies, engineers and mathematicians we can enlist.

Doing the math.
Doing the math.
We used animated hand-drawn elements to bring the video to life and introduce lots of movement and energy, but arbitrary scribbles weren’t what we were going for.
We collaborated with the team at Engage Learning, one of Devon’s partners, to ensure every animation was as accurate as possible. We ensured every number and equation perfectly matched the application on-screen, from the problems on a notebook page to the arc of a swingin’ softball bat.
Don’t believe us? Check our work.

Talk about involving the community — the local high school softball team even jumped in to give our talent impromptu coaching to make sure “Olivia” hit her swing out of the park.

Setting the scene.
Setting the scene.
The set design had to show the same energy and excitement as
every class held in the Cal Ripken, Sr. STEM Center. That meant
the small details mattered. From casting, to wardrobe, to props, to
blocking the scenes, every detail was planned around a feeling of
curiosity and exploration.

Results
Makin’ it rain brand love.
Devon is in a business where anchoring down to company values is the best way to communicate a message that’s valuable to all audiences. A sure way to build brand love and get people talking about Devon in a positive light was to leverage their generous investments in STEM education.
